PEACE LOVE & WAR - The Sights and Sounds of '67

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of 1967, Morrison Hotel Gallery and The Alexander Gallery will host a music film festival, photography exhibition and sale and Veterans benefit. Morrison Hotel Gallery, the world leader in fine art music photography, with The Alexander Gallery of classical and contemporary art, bring the memories and energy behind the summer of 1967 into the summer of 2017 while raising money for a local military veterans’ program, Image Nation, a joint project of Nevada County Arts Council and Welcome Home Vets.

Saturday August 12th, 4-6pm - VIP RECEPTION - Co-Owners of the Morrison Hotel Gallery, legendary photography Henry Diltz and music executive Peter Blachley will host the music photography opening event at The Alexander Gallery, 225 Broad St., Nevada City, CA. Refreshments provided.

Saturday, August 12th, 7-11pm Double Feature Screening, The Nevada Theater, 401 Broad St., Nevada City, CA:

  • UNDER THE COVERS, a film produced by Peter Blachley about his friend Henry Diltz and Art Director Gary Burden. It tells their stories behind the iconic album cover photographs he has taken for music legends Jackson Browne, The Doors, America, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, Neil Young, and the Eagles, among others. 
  • MONTEREY POP, the newly-remastered and digitally-enhanced concert film by D.A. Pennebaker. The film, a first-person perspective of the landmark California music festival that saw historic performances from icons like Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding and Janis Joplin in 1967. 

Both films on Saturday night will be presented by legendary photographer Henry Diltz who was the official photographer of both Monterey Pop and Woodstock Festivals.

Sunday, August, 13th, Doors open at 1:30pm. Double Feature Benefit Screening: 2pm - 5pm  - The Nevada Theater, 401 Broad St., Nevada City, CA. Refreshments courtesy BriarPatch Co-op

This double-feature film screening benefits Image Nation, a project of Nevada County Arts Council that offers veterans an opportunity to tell their stories and connect to the community through photography.

  • THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE explores the mental health issues that plague veterans once they return home from the dangers of the battlefield. The New York Times deemed the film “important” while The Hollywood Reporter said, “If this film can’t spur politicians to act, nothing will.”
